The soil data from New Zealand is supplied by Manaaki Whenua - Landcare Research, a partner in the Visualising Australasia's Soils (VAS) project. Manaaki Whenua - Landcare Research is one of New Zealand's Crown Research Institutes formed in 1992 and as such, it functions as an independent company owned by, and accountable to, the New Zealand Government.
The soils research undertaken by Manaaki Whenua - Landcare Research looks at the complex inter-relationships that control the response of soils and landscapes to climatic and human-induced pressures, evaluating current risk, and offering sustainable land use and natural resource allocation options. It includes precision agriculture, soil microbes and innovative data analysis among themes. You can read more about it at their website.
The soil data shown in the VAS portal are accessed dynamically (on-the-fly) and are provisioned in compliance with international data standards.
